Jim specializes in civil litigation, representing both plaintiffs and defendants. His practice includes complex commercial litigation, business disputes, tort claims and personal injury cases. He is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. He is also admitted to the bars of United States Supreme Court, the United States Courts of Appeal for the Fourth, Fifth and District of Columbia Circuits, the Federal Court of Claims and the federal district courts in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
Jim was born in Battle Creek, Michigan. He attended Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He graduated magna cum laude in 1976, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and political science. After college Jim moved to Washington, D.C. where he worked for Congressman Philip E. Ruppe. After Congressman Ruppe retired from Congress, Jim attended the University of Michigan Law School, where he graduated in 1981.
